The Challenge
A bank facilities team needed automatic operators on 14 public entrances across a branch retrofit. Branches had to stay open during business hours, several doors were older aluminum leaves on offset pivots, and the program had a fixed close date tied to a regional accessibility commitment.
Scope
- 14 Dorma 8616 operators, low-energy setting on public doors
- Push plate actuators on both sides, mounted to approach clearances
- Power run coordination with the branch electrician
- Opening force, speed and hold-open time recorded per door
Our Approach
We measured every opening in one visit, recording door weight, pivot type, header depth and the nearest power source. Two headers were too shallow for the first operator option, so the spec moved those doors to a surface-applied package that still matched the rest of the branch.
The written CAD scope landed on day 3 with one price range per opening and a sequence that kept at least one entrance open per branch. Installs ran early mornings before the doors opened to customers, and each operator was force-tested and documented before the crew left.
Outcome
The install closed on day 18 with every opening signed off. The facilities PM reported no callbacks in the months after handover, and the branch file now holds a written spec and test record for each operator.
"Spec'd 14 operators across our bank retrofit. CAD day 3, install day 18. No callbacks."
