The Challenge
The existing bronze aluminum entrance at a Yonge and Sheppard office building had failing pivots and no barrier-free operator. Facility operations needed the new entrance to pass an accessibility walkthrough without a second visit.
Scope
- Kawneer medium stile entrance pair, clear anodized
- Offset pivots and concealed overhead closer on the inactive leaf
- Low-energy operator with bollard-mounted actuators
- Opening force test and handover record
Our Approach
We specified a medium stile pair so the stiles could carry the operator arm and the exit device without crowding. The written spec listed actuator heights, approach clearances on both sides and the target opening force before anything was ordered.
The old pair came out and the new entrance went in over two evenings, with a temporary secure closure in between. The operator was set and force-tested before the walkthrough.
Outcome
Push-force passed on the first walkthrough and the inspector signed on site. The building now has a single documented entrance package covering doors, hardware and operator.
"AODA push-force passed first walkthrough. Inspector signed on spot."
