Plan the schedule before you commit

On a tenant fit-out or a building upgrade, the door package is often on the critical path. Fabrication lead times, crew booking and inspection windows decide whether the opening is ready when the next trade needs it. This estimator gives you a realistic span in weeks from site measure to closed install, plus a Canadian dollar range, so you can sequence the work and set expectations early.

Choose the door type, enter the number of openings, and tick rush scheduling if the date is tight. The tool adds the written CAD spec period, the fabrication lead for that door type, the on-site install days and a short closeout allowance. It then shows a low and high week count, because supplier schedules and site access both vary.

What drives the timeline

Our process starts with a free site measure and a written CAD spec delivered within 2 business days. After you approve the spec, parts are ordered. Stock-size hollow metal doors move quickly. Custom hollow metal, aluminum entrances and storefront systems take longer because they are fabricated to your measured openings. Automatic operators and fire-rated assemblies add listing, programming and inspection steps.

On site, a crew typically completes about four openings per day, so install duration scales with opening count. A single stock hollow metal door is a short visit. A forty-door building program is planned in phases, with occupied areas scheduled around business hours. Once approved, installation typically runs 7 to 14 business days from sign-off for standard scopes, and the estimator reflects the extra fabrication time for specialty products.

How rush scheduling works

Rush scheduling prioritizes fabrication and crew booking where the supplier and our calendar allow it. In the model it trims the fabrication portion of the timeline by about a quarter and applies a 10 to 15% premium to the cost range. It does not shorten the CAD spec period or the time needed for a fire inspection, and it cannot promise a date a manufacturer will not support.

If a door is damaged or a break-in has left an opening unsecured, you probably need emergency board-up first. That is a separate same-day service, after which the permanent replacement can follow the normal schedule shown here.

Getting a firm date

Treat the output as a planning window. Lead times change with manufacturer backlogs and the season, so your written spec states the confirmed schedule once products are quoted. Share the result with your project manager, then request a written quote below and we will confirm a measure date and a delivery estimate for your actual openings.

Commercial Door Install Timeline Estimator: FAQ

How long does a commercial door installation take in Toronto?

Most standard scopes install in 7 to 14 business days from sign-off, after a 2 business day CAD spec. Custom aluminum, automatic operators and fire-rated assemblies take longer because of fabrication and inspection steps.

What does rush scheduling change?

It prioritizes fabrication and crew booking where possible, which shortens the fabrication portion of the timeline at a modest premium. It cannot shorten manufacturer lead times that are fixed or required inspections.

Can you install doors in an occupied building?

Yes. We phase the work around business hours and tenant access so entrances stay secure and usable. Share your constraints at the site measure and they are written into the schedule.
